Amnon Answers Frequently Asked Questions

Where are the subtitles?Very simple: there are no subtitles here and no other downloadable files.
Why can't I search by comedy/drama/etc.? Why can't I search by actor/actress name?Targumon is just a jumping point. For everything else there's IMDb, where you can find filmographies, soundtrack listings, rankings and recommendations, DVD technical details, trailers and a lot of other goodies.
Aren't you carried away with the literal translations?Perhaps I am. For example, Hable con Ella got the respectable name 'Talk to Her', although I think it should be 'Talk with Her'. The day the distributors cease the creativity on their side of the sclae, with names like Never Play with Strangers, I promise to end the pedantry on my side.
'Poor resemblance to the original'?! The name is very relatedIn distributors' favor, one should note that when they give a 'bad' name to a movie, at least usually it got something to do with the plot. The Hebrew name for the film One Hour Photo (or the series Homicide: Life on the Street), suggest that whoever named it, first of all saw it. But (and for me it's a big 'but'), those names are still not related to the originals. Once the producers abroad chose a name (even a lame one) I expect the Israeli distributors to adhere to that choice.
How come there are movies with several names?Different distribution companies bring movies to the cinema, various TV channels and video stores and they are not always coordinated. It's also possible that a movie that failed at the box office, will reach the video stores with another name in an attempt to succeed more.
I sent you an update. How long till it shows on the site?Small updates occur once or twice a month (mainly for movies that are about to premiere), more extensive updates occur less regularly.
What is it with USA and Canada? Many movies produced in Canada have an American cast and an American crew and they're actually American movies for any practical reason (simply because it's sometimes cheaper to shoot in Canada). Therefore if you wish to restrict the search to American movies, you should also include Canada. Same principle applies to Britain, Ireland and Scotland.
Where do you get the information? How reliable is it?The following sources assist me:
  • Cinemania 96 CD R.I.P (Yes, Microsoft did some useful stuff...).
  • Websites.
  • Weekend newspapers ('This Week' ,'7 Nights').
  • Video stores and vending machines.
  • And of course the memory of the crew and the rest of the data contributors.
I do everything in my power to display credible information, but errors and omissions are excepted (meaning a mistake might have been innocently made so formally I can't 100%-guarantee it for professionals who use the site as part of their work).
